BAJA AIRVENTURES REMOTE FLY-IN
TRIP TO BAHIA DE LAS ANIMAS

April 17, 2005, Tim Farwell, Baja AirVentures, Bahia de las Animas fly-in trip report, Baja California, Mexico:

I'm just back from a six-day fly-in trip to our camp at Bahia de las Animas. This has been the best weather so far this season. Very light winds and warm days. The water has also warmed 6-8 degrees from my last visit two weeks ago, without a thermometer I would guess 64 degrees.

As for the fishing, we had the entire group of eight involved for a night squid run. All had fun catching and releasing squid to 15 pounds.

As for the day fishing, I had two hard core enthusiasts, Luke Butcher, 13, from Seattle, and Andy Hesterman, 37, from Twenty-Nine Palms, a Marine just back from Iraq.

The three of us fished four days for the morning bite and each day produced bigger and better fish. By day four we were catching bass to seven pounds, and a nice 15 pound unidentified type of cabrilla caught by yours truly. The fish were caught dead center of Las Animas Bay in about 200 foot of water.

Among the other large fish caught by Andy, the scorpionfish was the most colorful. As for Luke, a.k.a. Dr. Butcher, by the end of the trip he had learned to clear his own line and he overcame his fear of putting the fish in the box. Way to go Luke!
