A FEW YELLOWTAIL STARTING TO SHOW AT SAN FRANCISQUITO

May 8, 2005, John Aman, San Francisquito fishing, Baja California, Mexico Report:

I just returned from San Francisquito. The yellowtail are just starting to show, not in great numbers yet, but saw a few. There is lots of bait in the water and the water is still cold. I caught only one nice yellow, about a 40 pounder. I went down with Dave and Tanna Phillips of Las Vegas and Tanna's dad Earl.

We drove down to San Francisquito and fished on my boat that I keep there. I caught the yellowtail at the north point, at the north end of the beach in front of the resort. Punta Santa Teresa, I think it's called. We saw yellowtail on the surface down toward El Barril, but couldn't get bit on iron, probably due to all the small bait in the water that they were feeding on.

We only fished with lures this San Francisquito trip. However, I just installed my new bait tank, so I will definitely be fishing live bait more in the future. I caught the fish on a white Salas 6X Jr. lure. We also caught several nice sized cabrilla, releasing all of them except one. Also, Beto has built a nice palapa for camping near the bay and plans on building more.
