YELLOWTAIL FISHING IS GOOD AND DORADO
ARE EXPECTED TO ARRIVE SHORTLY

July 20, 2005, Abraham Vazquez, Camp Gecko, Bahia de los Angeles, Baja Californa, Mexico Fishing:

Fishing is great now at Bahia de los Angeles (L.A. Bay). Yellowtail are still here. The fishing action is still down deep now. It has been good at Smith Island for yellowtail in all sizes from 10 to 25 pounds, but more of the 10-pound class now. They are taking the iron and bait, but it has been hard to make bait the last week.

There are also some nice yellowtail of 35-40 pounds in the deep reefs behind Smith island, and some jewfish of 60-100 pounds.

The dorado bite has not started yet. If Bahia de los Angeles is going to have one at all, it should start within another week or so. There is still a good bite on leopard grouper and huachinango, but Bahia de los Angeles fishing weather has been the limiting factor the last week .

The weather is hot, with some days 100 and the mid 80's during the night. The winds have been persistent out of the southeast every day, humidity 70%. The water temperature at Bahia de los Angeles is between 79-83 degrees and warming up. The gas station has diesel also.

The swell from the south has made it uncomfortable out in the channel for most boats so fishing has been limited to inshore. The road conditions are great. The generator in town has been having problems lately so electrical service has been intermittent. The town is getting ready for the fiestas on August 1-2-3. One thing is for sure, it will be hot.
