MIXED INSHORE FISHING SPECIES AT PUERTO MORELOS

Aug. 12, 2006, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cancun sportfishing, Quintana Roo, Mexico:

I got a good look at one of those barracuda they catch at Puerto Morelos near Cancun , and let me tell you, they are big and they are mean looking critters. These fish are nothing at all like the West Coast barracuda.

I should have the photos next week, showing the 50-60-plus pounder that was taken by Fleet Manager Mario Anzoategui's brother, Hugo Anzoategui, of Fremont, CA, fishing just a half mile outside the marina, trolling a ballyhoo rigged bait.

Overall, the El Cid Caribe charter boats fished a total of 14 days and reflected catches of 5 barracuda, 13 red snappers, 1 jack crevalle and 10 king sierra. These fish are like a giant sierra that weigh in at 15-plus pounds.

Cancun fishing are climate is hot and humid, with air temps from the high 70's at night to the low 90's daytime highs. The easterly surface winds continue at about 10-14 knots and sea temperatures are at 83 throughout the Cancun area. All fish were taken on ballyhoo baits.
