CABO SAN LUCAS MARLIN BITE HOLDS UP
DURING DIP IN FISHING WATER TEMPERATURES

July 9, 2004, Benjamin Ortega, Solmar Fleet Cabo San Lucas fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

In spite of a 10-degree water temperature drop, marlin, dorado and yellowfin tuna catches held up handsomely at Cabo San Lucas this past week.

Another Cabo San Lucas blue marlin of 185 pounds was taken, along with a single dorado by Las Vegas anglers Kris, Dustin, Bob and Nick (no last names provided).

They fished the Solmar II off Las Destiladeras.

California anglers Michael Hall of Torrance, and Jim Knucles of Rosewood, boated two marlin each while working the Gordo Banks just east of Cabo San Lucas.

Both took their stripers while fishing aboard the Solmar I on separate days. Hall, had a rewarding Cabo San Lucas day, taking his first and second marlin, and then added a single dorado to highlight his day.

Mike Wooden of Wadsworth, Ill., also fished the Gordo, scoring a single striper and three yellowfin tuna aboard the Solmar IV.

Jon Lord of Sacramento, Calif., worked the San Jose del Cabo area on the San Lucas IV, where he caught and released a striper.

Another Hall, Robert of Amarillo, Tex., took four dorado and two yellowfin at the Las Destiladeras, while Florida angler Avilez-Thompson fished the Solmar II at the Faro Viejo during a wide-open bite on yellowfin, taking 11.

Captain of the week honors went to Adelberto Agundez of the San Lucas IV, who in five outings rewarded his passengers with four striped marlin, 11 dorado and nine yellowfin tuna.

Total catch by the Cabo San Lucas Solmar fleet for the week included 34 striped marlin, 22 released, 56 dorado, 39 yellowfin tuna, four skipjack, two roosterfish and one hammerhead shark.
