CABO SAN LUCAS HUGE BLACK MARLIN OF 1,100 POUNDS
WAS CAUGHT JUST 10 MILES OFF PUNTA PALMILLA

July 18, 2004, Tommy Garcia, Cabo Magic, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

SUMMARY: 56 Boats report the following: 4 Black Marlin 4 Blue Marlin 34 Striped Marlin 2 Pacific Sailfish 89 Yellowfin Tuna 69 Dorado 5 Wahoo 4 White Skipjack 2 Boats salado - no suerte

The report of 1100# black marlin has been the big buzz of town since it was caught July 10th a short 10 miles or so off the Palmilla in 28' Quien Sabe. This is an independantly owned boat. Confirmation of with the boats owner leads us to extend a handshake of congratulations and a BRAVO to the Angler, Captain and Mate for this extraordinary catch. Unfortunately, there was no official record of its weight as the anglers instructions to the crew were to take them back to Palmilla where they had launched from the beach.

"We remind anglers that these catches are rare and official weight & photos are very important. We encourage any of you fortunate enough to be in similar circumstance to bring your catch to the marina of Cabo San Lucas so that official IGFA weight, measurement and photos can be taken. In Cabo, Minerva Smith, proprietor of Minerva's Baja Tackle shop is an IGFA Representative and can verify in an official capacity.

These past few weeks have brought some particularly large dorado and wahoo ~ the food chain ... In 25+ years of fishing our waters, this tells me, Tommy Garcia, its a good sign that one of the best seasons our area has seen in decades is on the horizon and here come those giant yellowfin tuna!"

Other catches of note this period were (2) Yellowfin Tuna each weighing just over 100# caught aboard our fleet boat "MANANA" on Saturday 17th of July. Large dorado are being caught now also.
