DORADO PACE THE FISHING ACTION AS PICKINGS
ARE SLIM THIS WEEK AT CABO SAN LUCAS

Oct. 28-Nov. 3, 2004, Benjamin Ortega, Solmar Fleet, Cabo San Lucas dorado fishing report, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

In a week that saw slim pickings for most game fish at Cabo San Lucas, dorado (also mahi-mahi or dolphinfish) more than held their own, with 132, along with 14 striped marlin.

Top catch reported was made by Las Vegas, Nev. angler Vaughn Kierston who bagged his first striped marlin and six dorado, all on live mackerel. He fished the San Lucas IV off the Old Lighthouse.

Six-year-old Bent Dunaway got his first glimpse of what big game fishing is all about when he watched his dad, Dan, boat a single striper and two dorado in waters off San Jose del Cabo. All three of their fish were taken on a squid lure trolled from the San Lucas off San Jose del Cabo.

The four-member Fred Hand family from Atlanta, Ga, in their third consecutive year fishing aboard the Solmar IV, went home with a freezer chest full of fish to share with friends and neighbors. Included in their catch were nine dorado, six yellowfin tuna and one wahoo taken off the 95 Spot.

Jim Evans of Pensacola, Fla. Boated three dorado and a single wahoo four miles off San Jose del Cabo. He fished the San Lucas IV.

Tuna highlighted Elmhurst, Ill. angler Paul Rychoewsky's day on the water aboard the San Lucas VI at the Jaime Bank, taking four along with a single dorado.

Dorado were targeted by Catherine Happe and Chad Koenig of Chicago, Ill, who caught four while fishing the San Lucas V in waters off the Gordo Bank.

Dorado also was H. Shepard's choice to fish, taking four aboard the Solmar II off the Old Lighthouse.

Skipper of the week honor went to Benito Peralta of the San Lucas V who in six outings rewarded his customers with four striped marlin, 23 dorado, 17 yellowfin tuna and four wahoo.

Total catch for the week by the Cabo San Lucas Solmar fleet, including releases, was 14 striped marlin, 42 yellowfin tuna, 132 dorado, 17 skipjack, 14 wahoo and two sailfish.
