CORTEZ YACHT CHARTERS FISHING RESULTS

Jan. 21, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

The "Juanita VIII", reporting for 7 consecutive fishing days at Cabo San Lucas reflected 9 striped marlin released, 1 mako shark, 11 dorado and 20 yellowfin tuna. The "Fish Cabo", reporting for 5 consecutive Cabo San Lucas fishing days reflected 6 striped marlin released, 2 dorado (mahi-mahi) and 12 sierra. The Gaviota Sportfishing Fleet, reporting in for 36 fishing days, reflected 1 sailfish released, (really rare for this time of year), 22 striped marlin, (20 released) 8 dorado and 36 yellowfin tuna.

Cabo San Lucas Climate: 60 nights to 82 daytime highs, partly cloudy

Cabo San Lucas Fishing Sea Conditions: SST water temperatures ranged from 70 inshore to 72 offshore, with a distinct temperature break just outside the Golden Gate and Jaime Banks, dropping to a water temperature of 68.5 degrees.

The best Cabo San Lucas fishing area was the Golden Gate and Cabo Falso, with the closer Cabo Falso area just 5 miles offshore.

Live bait was best, but fair numbers of striped marlin are being taken on mackerel colored artificials. The Cabo San Lucas live bait supply was mostly mackerel.
