DIFFICULT FISHING CONDITIONS CHALLENGE CABO FLEET BOATS

April 15, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas, Baja Sur, Mexico:

It was very difficult fishing at Cabo San Lucas this past week as the ever changing currents and temperatures take their toll. Unfortunately, it's been some long and hard days for Cabo San Lucas anglers and the crews and while it is quasi-normal for this time of year, it truly doesn't make it any easier. The Gaviota Sportfishing Fleet, reporting for 37 Cabo San Lucas fishing days, reflected 3 stripers released, 1 wahoo, 4 dorado and 41 yellowfin tuna. The "Fish Cabo", reporting for 2 fishing days reflected 1 striper released and 5 giant squid and the "Juanita VIII", reporting for a single fishing day reflected only 5 giant squid for the day.

Cabo San Lucas Climate: Mostly sunny, temperatures ranging from 61 nights to 90 daytime highs.

Cabo San Lucas water temperatures continue to be an obstacle and ranged from 70 to 71 inshore and 68-71 offshore, with a distinct temperature break that ran NW to SE just below Cabo Falso.

There just hasn't been a "best area" for sportfishing this week at Cabo San Lucas and the boats were covering wide areas in search of a catch.

Live bait is recommended during difficult fishing periods. Anything to enhance the catch possibilities.
