TUNA PROVIDING ACTION DURING PERIOD OF
VERY SLOW MARLIN FISHING FOR CABO BOATS

July 1, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas fishing report, Baja Sur, Mexico:

It appears that the hurricane from the south of Mexico has pushed warm water into the Cabo San Lucas fishing vacation area and created some substantially warmer water conditions in the past couple of days.

Marlin fishing was very slow this past week at Cabo San Lucas, but the yellowfin tuna were providing some good to very good alternate action for the anglers.

The Gaviota Fleet, reporting for 45 Cabo San Lucas fishing days reflected 1 sailfish and 9 stripers, (7 releases) 8 dorado, 4 wahoo and 135 yellowfin tuna, with a few fish above the 100 lb. mark.

"Fish Cabo" reported for 4 days, reflecting 1 striper released, 2 dorado, 1 wahoo, (100 lbs.) and 14 yellowfin tuna.

The "Fish Cabo I" reporting for 5 days reflected 42 yellowfin tuna and 2 dorado.

Cabo San Lucas Climate was warm and muggy with scattered clouds, temperatures from 72 degree nights to 96 daytime highs.

Water temperatures were remarkably higher and ranged from 72 degrees at Cabo San Lucas to 77 degrees at the Jaime Bank and around to the 95.

Best Cabo San Lucas fishing area, generally, was right in the high temperature zone and ranged from Jaime Bank and south of Cabo Falso and around to the 95. Live bait was very important for a billfish if you could find a hungry one. Tuna were pretty active on feathers, swim baits and cedar plugs.
