EL FUERTE SPORTFISHING REPORT FOR CABO SAN LUCAS

July 7, 2005, Ty Miller, Bisbee's El Fuerte Sportfishing, Cabo San Lucas fishing report, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

The fishing has picked up this last week in the Cabo San Lucas vacation area, but to find the fish you need to find the cobalt blue water, which is anywhere from about 26 miles to 40 miles out. A 180 to 210 degree heading pretty much puts you in the zone. There are mostly marlin, wahoo and a few dorado. If you're lucky enough to find the porpoise doing the business you will be rewarded with some very nice tuna.

We had the pleasure of having Brandon Parker and party who came down for some fishing and we were lucky enough to find the porpoise holding tuna. We just happened to be the first on the scene and when it was finally over we had 10 very nice fish in the boat from the 30 to 60 pound class, with one very nice fish well over a buck-fifty lost near the boat. As we gaffed our tenth fish the word was out and the boats came rushing in. But the bite was over so it all worked out great.

Fishing prior to the weekend, we had a decent bite on the wahoo in the 50 to 70 pound class which, holding right at the 16 mile mark. But this wind whipping around the corner from the Pacific pushed the blue line further out a bit making for a longer run to the outside.

We're still trying to figure out this Cabo fishing weather. The locals on the docks claim the winds are not the norm for this time of year and I hope they are right. I sure have missed that flat water we were used to in Loreto. I understand the fishing is pretty tuff right now in Loreto and I hope it changes quickly for all of our many friends in Puerto Escondido.
