SPORTFISHING WATER TEMPERATURES HIGHLY
VARIABLE AROUND THE TIP OF CABO SAN LUCAS

July 22, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters weekly fishing report, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

The Cabo San Lucas vacation fishing area had an odd weather week, with a bit of minor turbulence from the tropical depression, causing the port to be closed for a day on Wednesday. There was a little drizzle the evening prior, too, but otherwise, it was just a partly cloudy week with good fishing at Cabo San Lucas for stripers.

The Gaviota Fleet, reporting in for 42 fishing days reflected 45 stripers, (32 released) 4 dorado and 3 yellowfin tuna.

The "Fish Cabo", reporting in for 4 fishing days reflected 5 stripers released, 2 yellowfin tuna and 1 dorado.

There still seems to be an extraordinary and unusual fishing water temperature change at Cabo San Lucas, with fluctuations that can change several degrees within the fishing day, with cooler waters from the Pacific streaking around the corner, toward the Sea of Cortez.

Cabo climate was hot & humid, with temps nearing the hundred mark with partly cloudy days. Sea conditions, generally, not a bad week from surface winds, but the temps are ever-changing at 77 on the Jaime Bank, 74 on the 95 and, 75-76 on the 1150 to the Gorda Banks.

The best fishing area was close to Cabo, with most of the billfish being taken within a few miles of the bay. There was fair fishing action on the artificials, especially in the mackerel colors, but live bait and the drop back's was pretty deadly, too.
