A WEEK OF AUGUST FISHING PRODUCES
JUST ONE BLUE MARLIN FOR GAVIOTA FLEET

Aug. 8, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico Fishing:

Only 1 small blue marlin was taken this week, aboard the "Gaviota II", skippered by Arnulfo Garcia, but we have reports of several other larger fish that were lost and getting bigger for the next angler.

With the warming of the fishing water in the Cabo San Lucas vacation area, a few more dorado are starting to filter in and that should help with the black and blue marlin action, too.

This week, the better fishing at Cabo San Lucas developed in late week and just about a mile from Cabo, out in front of Gray Rock.

The "Fish Cabo I" reported on an engine test run after putting in a new engine, that they released 2 stripers and landed 2 yellowfin tuna to 85 lbs., just outside the drop-off at Gray Rock (Cabeza Ballena). The engine performed perfectly and they went back in, all prior to 10 a.m.

The "Fish Cabo", reporting for 4 Cabo San Lucas fishing days reflected 6 stripers released, 1 dorado & 1 yellowfin tuna, with all fish taken from just outside the harbor to the Jaime Bank.

The Gaviota Fleet reported for 36 fishing days at Cabo San Lucas, reflecting 1 blue marlin, 13 stripers, (8 released) 1 sailfish released, 2 wahoo and 26 yellowfin tuna.

Cabo San Lucas Vacation Fishing area climate is getting warm, 75 nights to 100 daytime highs, partly cloudy. Water temps ranged from 77 at Cabo San Lucas to 81 at the Jaime Bank and at 84 on the Gorda Banks. The best fishing area was just outside the harbor, in front of Gray Rock and on the Jaime Bank. Live bait was best for the billfish while the tuna seemed more interested in the larger lures. Bait was mostly Caballito and a good supply.
