BIG COW CLASS 300-POUND YELLOWFIN TUNA
CAUGHT BY THE CABO SAN LUCAS BOAT GAVIOTA X

Sept. 16, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

The largest fish caught by at Cabo San Lucas for the week was a 300 pound yellowfin tuna, taken aboard the "Gaviota X", skippered by Captain Nicolas Winkler, which would most likely have taken most of the top honors in the upcoming Western Outdoor News Tuna Tournament on November 3-4, 2005.

While a good number of blue marlin were hooked up, only 6 were leadered and all were under 300 lbs.

Overall Cabo San Lucas fishing action reported for 30 boat days reflected 6 blue marlin, (4 released) 19 stripers, (13 released) 14 sailfish, (13 released) 8 dorado, 1 wahoo and 34 yellowfin tuna.

The "Fish Cabo I", reporting for 5 Cabo San Lucas fishing days reflected 4 stripers released, 1 sailfish released, 14 yellowfin tuna and 1 amberjack.

Cabo San Lucas climate was mostly sunny and hot, with temperatures ranging from 79 nights to 102 daytime highs. Sea conditions were excellent, albeit, with a big ground swell rolling through, water temperatures ranged from 82 at the Golden Gate on the Pacific side to 87 at the Gorda Banks.

Best fishing area at Cabo San Lucas at Golden Gate is providing fair action for the billfish, as were most of the high spots, including the 1150 on the opposite side of the peninsula. Live bait was best for the billfish and the bigger yellowfin tuna. The live bait supply was excellent, with some mix of mackerel and caballitos.
