CHARTER BOAT FISH CABO RELEASES 6 STRIPED MARLIN FOR TOURNAMENT WIN

June 30, 2006, Fish Cabo, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

The Cabo San Lucas charter boat Fish Cabo took first place honors in the 72-boat, Big Brothers Big Sisters Tournament, with 6 striped marlin releases for the 2 fishing days, and the "Gaviota V" took first place in the yellowfin tuna division.

Most sportfishing catches were made above the Gorda Banks to Destiladeras, but as the week progressed and the water temperatures changed for the better, the fishing was rapidly moving back closer to Cabo.

Overall fish counts for the Gaviota Fleet for 45 fishing days, reflected 27 striped marlin, 21 released, 1 blue marlin, 15 dorado, 2 wahoo and 9 yellowfin tuna.

The charter boat "Fish Cabo", reporting for 6 fishing days, had 7 stripers released, 1 wahoo and 4 dorado.

The charter boat "Fish Cabo I", reporting for 5 days, had 4 striped marlin released, 12 roosterfish and 8 yellowfin tuna.

Cabo San Lucas roosterfish action is much improved with many of the fish in the 20-40 pound ranges caught. Cabo weather was mostly sunny, hot and humid, 72 degree nights to 101 degree daytime highs. The Sea of Cortez side has been superb, with water temps back to 85-86 degrees from Cabo Falso and into the Sea of Cortez. Early week fishing was best from Gorda and above to Destiladeras, but as the week progressed, many marlin were being taken just 3 miles out of Cabo. Live bait was best, but there were a fair number of strikes on the artificials, including a number of wahoo biters. The bait supply was back to good, mostly mackerel.
