EAST CAPE ANGLERS 9TH ANNUAL FISHING ROUND-UP TOURNAMENT REPORT

June 12, 2004, Bill Burkett, boat Fat Cat fishing, East Cape, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

Fat Cat made 4 East Cape trips offshore last week. The first two days were with a friend and resulted in a Marlin release each day and a 20# Dorado on day one. Both days were spent fishing close in, off Punta Pescadero, East Cape, (2-6 miles out). Water temp. was 81 degrees, with mostly calm seas.

Next, we fished the East Cape Angler's 9th annual "Fishing Round-Up" tournament. It's a two-day event and the largest tournament for the club each year. We again had beautiful East Cape weather and good seas. There were 29 boats entered and nearly everyone caught fish.

At the end of day one, Fat Cat was in fourth place with a Marlin release. Our luck didn't hold for day two, however. We only managed to catch two small Dorado. Sadly, that might have been due to the theft of all our best lures during the night (our boat is anchored just off the beach).

Over all there were 22 Marlin caught. Including three Blue Marlin. ALL were released. There were 19 Dorado, 2 Wahoo and one Yellowfin Tuna caught as well.

East Cape Tuna remain well offshore. The charter boats are running 40 miles to find 5-20 lb. fish. Most of the "gringos" are fishing for the Marlin in close. We've had the best East Cape Marlin bite in years, so we're all happy.
