EXAGGERATED MARLIN REPORT PUBLISHED IN WESTERN OUTDOOR NEWS

June 28, 2004, Chuck Meredith, Los Barriles, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

The article in question was under the "East Cape" category of the Baja Beat fish reports published in Western Outdoor News (WON). The "spot" was actually only 2 boils of bait, you backed into them, hooked up all your rods and pulled away from the hook-up boil. The "El Tio" caught 16 stripes, etc. Only a few boats got into it. Boiling mackeral with boiling stripes after them. Yes it was nice, I was there in it, and I also haven't seen that happen in a long, long time. The next day, all gone. But it sounded in the Western Ourdoor News report as if everyone down here was fishing them, and all comers coming down would find the same. Like a gold strike. A normal hotel cruiser day, would be like today where only a few boats really got into the fish area, but also many did not even get a bump, returning home without flags. And the hotel cruisers out-fish the gringo boats here every day, without question.
