BOW-HEAVY TIN BOAT SWAMPED BY WAVE WHILE
FISHING A MILE OFF BAJA COAST AT LA RIBERA

July 30, 2004, Jorge Bergin, La Ribera, East Cape, Baja Sur, Mexico:

A new gringo part-time neighbor who lives in Marin county went out with me yesterday in my neighbor's 12 ft tin boat. The sea was fairly calm, we got a dorado on and lost it about a mile out in front of Punta Colorado. My new friend weighs 275 lbs. He was sitting in the bow. A small wave crested over the bow, we went bottoms up. Swam the boat towards shore, were finally given a ride/pull to shore by a Rancho Leonero boat. Saved the boat and motor, lost all our tackle. The radio says the tuna are 33 miles off the lighthouse.
