Aug. 4, 2004, Axel Valdez, Buena Vista Beach Resort, East Cape fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

Snapper 8. Jack Crevalle 1. Amberjack 4. Bonita 3. Pompano 1. Triggerfish 2. Cabrilla 1. Skip Jack 20. Needle fish 3.

East Cape Water Temperature: Great water conditions, we are fishing in the mid 80's still.

East Cape Air Temperature: Nice and sunny, hot and humid too, but very nice to fish and to lay back and enjoy the beautiful Sea of Cortes.

East Cape Fishing Spots and Distance: Our fishing was done all over our ocean this past week, since we hosted the East Cape Bisbee's. We had boats going all the way to the Gordo Banks to boats going North to the 88, hey who can blame them. Check the story of the winners.

Offshore East Cape Fishing: There were 80 blues caught this past week, the number is way up, but it is normal as the main species was blue marlin this past week. 72 along were caught during the tournament, and only 5 were brought to scale. The fleet also found the tuna offshore about 45-50 miles out, they brought one to scale that was very nice.

Inshore Fishing: Most of the East Cape fishing concentrated offshore, but we had guests that weren't participating in the tournament that decided to go the other way, and it was great for them as they found a lot of action inshore.

Successful Lures: Petrolero (brown with orange and little gray), Chivato (Yellow, orange, with black stripes), Purpura (black with purple). I may be missing some as they tried everything this past week.

Bait Used: Some mackerel, caballitos and the sardine. Sardine back to its normal. Captains this past week requested more ballyhoo as they were really handy for dorado and stripers.

Highlight of the Week: The highlight has to go to the big tunas caught early in the week. One boat with up to two over a 100 lbs tunas in the Vamonos and the 185 caught by our friend Mr. Jeff Simms. Also we cannot leave them out, our friends and neighbors Mr. and Mrs. Woody as they were fishing by themselves. They almost took everything in the tournament, with their 2 blues and their big dorado.
