SOME EAST CAPE SPORTFISHING BOATS FISHED
WITHIN SIGHT OF THE HOTELS THIS WEEK

Sept. 10-16, 2004, Axel Valdez, Buena Vista Beach Resort fishing report, East Cape, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

Total East Cape fishing boats out: 36. Fishermen: 92. Weather Temperature: Low to high 90's. Water Temperature: 83°- 85°.

East Cape Fishing Catch, including released fish: Blue Marlin 5. Striped Marlin 2. Sailfish 39. Dorado 53. Tuna 61. Roosterfish 4. Snapper 84. Jack Crevalle 1. Amberjack 1. Bonita 14. Cabrilla 1. Skip Jack 30.

East Cape Water Temperature: Even with the storm the currents remained about the same since the temperature of the water didn't change.

Air Temperature: It is nice and cool, well for our summer, since we have had temperatures in the low 90's midweek, because of Javier, but other than we haven't really gotten to the 100's yet.

East Cape Fishing Spots and Distance: This is what we locals like, to go out for a few hours and come back early to lunch what you just caught, and you can do this since everything is so close, you can actually see the fleet in front of the hotel throwing with live bait for dorado (this happened on Thursday and today). Tuna and sails and some stripers right in front of La Rivera, tuna may not be big, hey but plenty of them.

Offshore East Cape Fishing: Sails, stripers and more blues this week, all in from last week. Tuna and dorado also in, could it because of Javier?

Inshore East Cape Fishing: One boat when in for roosters and they caught 4 in a few hours, not too big in the 15-30 lbs range. Pargo, right in front of La Rivera together with the tuna.

Successful Lures: Petrolero (brown with orange and little gray), Chivato (Yellow, orange, with black stripes), Purpura (black with purple). I may be missing some as they tried everything this past week.

Bait Used: Mackerel (which is estrange as the water is very warm) and sardine.

Highlight of the Week: Fishing this week is like fishing when I was a kid. The hotel use to close for the summer and we had the whole ocean for us and with plenty of fish, early day.
