TUNA CAUGHT NEAR BAJA SHORE FROM CABO PULMO TO VINORAMA

Oct. 23, 2004, John Ireland, Rancho Leonero fishing report, East Cape, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

Mild weather all week, with cool mornings in the upper 60's and warm afternoon highs in the 80's, with warm water temp 86 deg, and some afternoon SE breezes. Very good East Cape fishing most of the week, with bumpy overcast conditions the last couple of days slowing the weekend bite. Dorado, yellowfin tuna, sailfish, blue marlin, and striped marlin are all biting close inshore.

Yellowfin tuna - inshore south, from Cabo Pulmo to Vinorama, 2-3 miles offshore. Very bunched schools 5-35 lb tuna, with larger fish to 100 lbs further outside Picky biters taking mostly live sardinas and mackerel.

Dorado - close inshore, many schools with lots of fish from 5-20 lbs, with the occasional 40-pounder mixed in, taking mostly live bait. All East Cape anglers enjoying success.

Billfish - lots of sailfish, close inshore, a consistent bite with sails mixed in with the dorado and tuna. taking live mackerel and sardinas. Some blues and a few stripers (water too warm for the stripers), releasing 1-2 blues per day.

Inside - Dennis Spike's kayak East Cape fishing group did well, taking over 20 different species, including dorado, tuna, jacks, pargo and roosterfish.
