2004 EAST CAPE INVITATIONAL FISHING TOURNAMENT REPORT

Nov. 2, 2004, Doug Brown, East Cape Invitational Fishing Tournament Report, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

The East Cape Invitational tournament, this year on Oct. 16-21, 2004, is scored on three days of fishing. We practice catch and release on all billfish. No points for dead billfish. We had 24 anglers in eight teams. The wahoo fishing was really good this year as we boated eight for the week. dorado were also plentiful. The tuna, however, were there but not all that hungry.

This year's East Cape tournament was great for fishing and fun, just what the doctor ordered. Rancho Buena Vista did a great job as usual. The staff there is exceptional. A rookie team won this year by catching four elusive wahoo for lots of points: Team Chingadera with Mike Marquez, Gary Martin and Sergio Perez. The biggest fish trophy went to Bert Ellie from the team Happy Hookers, a 78-pound tuna, almost as big as Bert. Top points for individual fishing went to Mark Stallings, great job from a new young angler. The weather was the best in years and everyone came home with fish for the freezer. Cannot wait until next year.
