DECEMBER DORADO CONCENTRATED AT PUNTA PESCADERO
AVERAGING 10 TO 15 POUNDS

Dec. 25, 2004, John Ireland, Rancho Leonero, East Cape, Baja Calfornia Sur, Mexico Fishing:

More typical East Cape winter weather, with cool mornings in the 60s and afternoon highs in the mid 70s, and partly cloudy, windy fishing conditions most of the week. East Cape water temperatures were cooler at 71-73 degrees, with few boat departures.

Striped marlin with some black marlin are mixed in are north, 5-10 miles off Punta Pescadero, taking a mix of live bait and trolled lures, but they remain picky biters.

East Cape dorado are concentrated on the buoys off Punta Pescadero, averaging 10-15 pounds with some larger bulls to 30 pounds mixed in, taking mostly live sardinas, mackerel and hoochies.

School-sized yellowfin tuna are reported at the East Cape tuna hole off Cabo Pulmo, taking mostly weighted live bait. Very little fishing pressure, as most East Cape boats are fishing north for dorado and marlin.

Lots of sierra are taking live bait inside, plus hoochies and chrome, off most area beaches, with many taken by shore fishermen.
