JANUARY FISHING "PRETTY DISMAL" FOR EAST CAPE FLEET BOATS

Jan. 14-20, 2005, Chris Moyers, East Cape Smoke House, East Cape, Baja, Mexico:

East Cape Fishing Charters 16. Anglers 48. Total Fish 36. Fish/Charter 2.25. Fish/Angler .75. Striped Marlin 7. Dorado 29. Water Temperature 67-72. Air Temperature 80-58. Winds Fri-Wed: calm in the a.m. with mild to moderate north winds developing in the p.m.

Not much to report this past week for fishing at East Cape. The fishing is pretty dismal, which isn't uncommon for January.

Anyway, the East Cape fishing report is pretty basic this past week. Anglers are catching striped marlin and dorado (mahi-mahi) only, and not very many of them.

We've had some afternoon winds out of the north kicking up for most of the past week. Thursday was nice and calm. Along with the winds come the seas, so anglers were pretty much relegated to fishing the waters to the north towards Punta Pescadero. East Cape saw air temperatures range between 58-80 degrees. Water temperatures saw a range of 67-72 degrees. Bait-wise, we've got mackerel.

East Cape anglers reported limited Striped Marlin action to the north off Punta Pescadero in the vicinity of the shark buoy stops. Mackerel and lures did the trick there. In terms of the Dorado, it was much the same story. Head north until you get to waters located off Punta Pescadero, then check GPS coordinates and find the shark buoys.

In the afternoon, the winds will start picking up. Mackerel and hoochies worked best for Dorado this past week.
