MULTIPLE MARLIN FLAGS SHOWING UP ON EAST CAPE CHARTER FISHING BOATS

April 15-21, 2005, Chris Moyers, East Cape Smoke House, East Cape, Baja California Sur fishing, Mexico:

Charters 195. Anglers 536. Total Fish 727. Fish/Charter 3.73. Fish/Angler 1.36. Catch, including released fish: Striped Marlin 153. Sailfish 1. Dorado 43. Yellowfin Tuna 509. Pargo 19. Wahoo 1. Water Temperature 68-75. Air Temperature 90-62. Seas calm in the a.m. with very slight chop developing in the p.m.

The fishing at East Cape has picked up! The Striped Marlin bite remained strong despite a slight drop in overall catch rate. The Yellowfin tuna fishing picked up considerably and may be classified as nice! Dorado fishing has yet to kick in at East Cape, but that was the only thing holding us back this past week.

East Cape had a week of virtual windless fishing days! Just some nice afternoon breezes kicking in for the most part. This past week saw air temperatures in the East Cape vacation area range between 62-91 degrees. Water temperatures saw a range of 68-75 at East Cape. Bait-wise, we've still got mackerel, but no sardines.

The striped marlin fishing is a lot of fun right now. It seems like every charter fishing boat is getting at least one and it's not uncommon to see boats coming in flying multiple Striper flags. The overall catch rate was about 29% this past week. East Cape anglers are reporting some fun to the north off Punta Pescadero, 10-12 miles, as well as in the vicinity of the shark buoy stops, as well as to the south between the waters of La Ribera, 4-14 miles, and Punta Arena, 12-16 miles.

The Dorado fishing at East Cape was still pretty slow this past week. However, those that are being landed are nice sized ranging 20-30 lbs. Also, the Dodo are pretty close in.

The Yellowfin bite at East Cape is pretty much going off right now. The overall catch rate is up to about 95% so that pretty much tells the story. The down side to that is the fact that there hasn't been much poundage coming in. Most, if not all, of the Yellowfin coming in are in the football class. The Yellowfin are still hanging out on the outside between 25-38 miles.

April 8-14, 2005, Chris Moyers, East Cape Smoke House, East Cape, Mexico Fishing Report:
