TUNA AND ROOSTERFISH ENLIVEN FLY FISHING AT EAST CAPE THIS WEEK

May 21, 2005, Gary Graham, Baja On The Fly, East Cape, Baja Sur, Mexico Fly Fishing:

The good news in the East Cape vacation area is that the tuna showed up this week and we have had fairly consistent teasing action for smaller roosterfish.

Also, we found a few dorado while fishing close to shore, and we even had a few pompano in front of Punta Colorada.

In the chum department, the East Cape sportfishing bait guys are having a tough time making bait. The mackerel have gone away. They have been concentrating their efforts on mullet and have pronounced it too much work for few fish. The schools are very small and each net-throw yields only a few mullet at a time. No one has seen any sardina to speak of. The fishing weather this morning is flat calm and the promise of a hot tuna bite has everyone up and ready to get their rod bent.

East Cape water temperatures were at 71-78 degrees, with air temperatures of 60-89 degrees, 8 m.p.h. winds, and scattered clouds.
