BIG ROOSTERFISH OF 55 POUNDS LANDED DURING
EAST CAPE FISHING ABOARD THE CHARTER BOAT BOHEMIA

July 17, 2005, Kevin Resky, East Cape, Mexico Fishing Trip Report:

I caught a 55 pound roosterfish at the Las Arenas lighthouse on July 1, 2005, on the Bohemia with Captain Alonzo out of Hotel Punta Colorada.

I have been chasing these darn fish for 15 years and finally got a trophy! Captain Alonzo of the "Bohemia" indicated it was 55 to 60 pounds. I fought this thing for 30 minutes on 30 pound test. Caught right at the lighthouse. Caught on live mullet. We saw a big blue marlin jumping. We lost many East Cape mystery fish on the reefs in front of La Ribera including a very nice tuna right off the shore. The jig broke in half. Also brought a nice amberjack to the surface which came unbuttoned as well.

The wind was brutal and there was no reason to try to go outside and the water was cold for July as well and green.

We fished three days. The first two days were NOT productive. We were on the "Pez Gallo" out of Punta Colorada. We went outside 2 days in a row, at least 30 if not 40 miles. The seas were very confused and the wind was brutal.

Day one, a very small, almost embarrassing sail.

Day 2, a very small Dorado and three small tuna. So rough you could not even hold on to your beer.

On day three we caught the roosterfish along with one at 35 pounds along with one at about 25.
