BILLFISH ACTION STEADY FOR SPORTFISHING FLEETS AT EAST CAPE

Oct. 14-20, 2005, Chris Moyers, East Cape Smoke House, East Cape fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

For combined East Cape charter fishing fleets including Hotel Palmas de Cortez, Hotel Playa del Sol, Rancho Leonero, Hotel Buena Vista, and Hotel Rancho Buena Vista. Charters 332; Anglers 946; Total Fish 886; Fish/Charter 2.76; Fish/Angler .94. Catch, including released fish: Blue Marlin 20; Striped Marlin 94; Sailfish 135; Dorado 113; Yellowfin Tuna 479; Pargo/Snapper 17; Wahoo 14; Amberjack 6; Pompano 1; Cabrilla 1; Roosterfish 2. Water Temperature 81-89; Air Temperature 100-76; Seas calm in the a.m. with slight seas developing in the p.m.

Overall the East Cape billfish bite has been pretty decent this past week. The Yellowfin Tuna bite fell off but that can of course be attributed to the winds. The bite picked back up nicely as the winds have subsided. The Dorado bite picked up ever so slightly but can still only be characterized as slow.

Last week saw air temperatures range between 71-94 in the East Cape fishing area. The water temperature was a pretty uniform 83-86 for most of the week. As mentioned, the North winds blew from Monday to Thursday pretty good. The wind was still blowing as of Friday, but not nearly as bad.

We've got squid, mackerel and caballito bait for the various pelagic species to snack on. All in all amigos, it's a fine time to find your backside in southern Baja!

Lynn Rose and all the anglers of the East Cape Classic fishing tournament, 187 in all, generated over $30,000 in charitable contributions to support local area health care facilities and schools here in Los Barriles.

This year's East Cape Classic was sponsored by Lynn Rose Tours, Palmas de Cortez, Corona Beer, Alaska Airlines, Accurate Reels, Fisherman's Fleet (La Paz), Mustad Hooks, Cal Star Rods, Seeker Rods, Angler Center, Just Fishing, Thompson's Building Supplies, Awl Grip, Llewellyn Supply, Baja Papa's East Cape Smokehouse and Buzzard's Bay.

The Yellowfin bite was unreal during the Classic with most fish coming in at the 50-60 pound class. Additionally, the tournament anglers caught and released 221 billfish in three days.
