GOOD MIX OF YELLOWFIN TUNA SIZES CAUGHT
BY BAJA BOATS FISHING AT EAST CAPE

Oct. 30, 2005, Gary Leeper, East Cape, Baja Sur, Mexico:

It appears the yellowfin tuna fishing is hot at East Cape, with a good mix of sizes. Most East Cape cruisers are getting squid early, then still-fishing with squid chunks as bait and chum after they find the fish, which have been mostly out 25 miles from Los Barriles.

My wife Sam and I caught one football and broke off a monster on trolled cedar plugs. Saw one tuna of 260 pounds brought in here at Verdugo's this week, and many are in 30 to 60 pound class.

Striper fishing also appears good, but dorado are scarce except for small schoolies near the boat line.

East Cape water temperatures are 83 to 85 degrees, air 70 to 90, weather calm.
