EAST CAPE FISHING PRODUCES DORADO BITE ON HOOCHIES

Dec. 23, 2005, Roy Baldwin, Rancho Leonero, East Cape, Mexico Sportfishing Report:

The East Cape fishing area had pleasant weather for this time of year with cooler mornings in the mid 50's, warmer afternoon highs near 85 degrees, a couple of days of north wind mixed in with some really nice days, cooler water temperatures at 70-72 degrees, and green water. The hot bite continues on the calm days, with East Cape dorado and billfish spread throughout the bay, and sierra off most East Cape beaches.

Billfish are a mix of striped marlin and sailfish concentrated in the same area, about 3 miles off La Ribera, with pods of roaming marlin stretching up to Punta Pescadero. Fish are biting bait and lures aggressively, with all you wanted over the weekend.

The strong dorado bite continues at East Cape, with lots of dorado of 10-15 pounds spread from the lighthouse to the buoys off Punta Pescadero, with fish taking live mackerel, hoochies and lures.

Fishing inside, sierra are off most East Cape area fishing beaches, from Rancho Leonero south to Las Barracas, taking mostly hoochies.
