WHITE SEABASS IS CAUGHT SOUTH OF ENSENADA AT THE SAN JOSE REEF

Jan. 23, 2005, Sammy Susarrey, Lily Fleet, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico Fishing:

On Saturday, the Tamara fished at the San Jose reef south of Ensenada, and we got a nice 20-pound white seabass, very close to the kelp beds. The water temperature was 60.5 degrees, and we had nice 4-inch anchovies from Mike's Ensenada bait barge. Fishing inside the San Jose reef, we also caught many medium sized bonito. However, bottom fishing was slow at the reef, but some boats including Melody, and Cortez pangas did well on whitefish limits and some red rockcod and salmon grouper.

The giant Humboldt squid showed up again for the Amigo at Ensenada's Punta Banda bank, in a sea water temperature of 61 degrees, in blue water, with a lot of birds and bait fish all the way from the San Jose reef to the Punta Banda bank.

Ensenada commercial fishermen say they are catching one or two albacore a day at the 238 bank and the 295 bank. Most of the albacore are small 8 to 10 pounders.
