WESTERN OUTDOOR NEWS SUBSCRIBER FISHES FOR WHITEFISH
AT ENSENADA'S PUNTA BANDA BANK

Jan. 24, 2005, Rodney Parker, Amigo, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico Fishing:

We went on an Ensenada charter fishing trip on the "Amigo" last Monday the 17th. Sammy caught a squid I photographed during a great day of bottom fishing.

We were fishing at Ensenada's Punta Banda Bank that day in about 280 feet of water. We were fishing with dropper loops baited with small sardines and frozen squid. That squid took a sardine. Sammy had told me that he had been getting a few squid on his Ensenada fishing trips, so I know he was trying real hard that day to catch one for us. He was using one of my "Toad Tamer" rods with 30-pound braid and a 6-foot top shot of 25-pound fluorocarbon on an Avet "SX" fishing reel. It gave Sammy a nice fight. That was the only squid we caught that day, but we had all the whitefish, salmon grouper, lingcod and other assorted rockfish that we wanted to keep. I had specifically told Sammy that I would like to get some whitefish for fish tacos, and he delivered.

I live in Michigan and go down to Ensenada to fish with Sammy while staying at the Hotel Coral. I am also a long time subscriber to Western Outdoor News. Thank you for a great publication. It makes the Michigan winters go by a little more quickly.
