JUST A FEW FISH CAUGHT DURING FISHING TRIP TO CORONADO ISLANDS

Jan. 31, 2005, Josh Schwartz, Coronado Islands, Mexico:

We fished on a private 26-foot Skipjack, out of Mission Bay, water temperatures were 60 degrees, constant. We started at the rock pile, not much of a current, jigged one yellowtail off the bottom on a scrambled egg iron. Then fished the south Coronado Island for Halibut (not even a hint of a strike), finished at the middle grounds for a handful of rockfish. Finished with 1 yellow and a few rockfish.

The swell was very big and we almost turned it around due to rough seas. However, it smoothed out a little as the day went on, and ended up not being too bad weather wise, except for very large rollers. The fishing at the rock pile was slow, we hooked 3 yellows and landed one, and the rest of the day was spent around the island fishing for an occasional rock fish. Overall very, very slow fishing at the Coronados.
