FISHING BOAT MELODY REPORT FOR ENSENADA

Jan. 29, 2006, Judy Ostberg, Melody, Marina Coral, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico:

We had a beautiful day on the Ensenada Banda Bank with great fishing aboard the Melody for 15 quality Reds, 12 Salmon Grouper to 8 pounds, 3 whitefish, and 4 large lingcod, of which 2 were females with eggs. We put them in the bait tank and let them eat for awhile and then released them.

There was very little current at Ensenada, making it easy to get down to 300 feet. We had 61.8 degrees for the water temperature at the Banda Bank, while the temperature at the tip of Punta Banda was 58.3 degrees.

This was the first time this season of bottom fishing at Ensenada that we have caught salmon grouper.

We fished one paddy for yellowtail, but nobody home. Good news about the water temperature, could be an early albacore season. Wishful thinking. The bite was really steady, and we were done at 11 a.m. Gordo had great sardines, and said he will continue having bait every week from now on.
