GOOD WINTER FISHING CONDITIONS FOR PUNTA BANDA PANGAS

Jan. 21, 2007, Ivan Villarino, Vonny's Fleet, Punta Banda, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico:

This week we had good fishing for our pangas at Punta Banda.

On Monday, Jay Johnson of Ensenada went out on the Vonny I with Captain Beto. They had a little wind from the south, but not too bad. They caught some nice lingcods, their limits on whitefish, and good reds and sandbass.

On Tuesday, Brian "Calico" Foley from Campo La Joya went out fishing on the Vonny I with Beto. Brian and a bad cold but he wanted to fish.

Ensenada still had a bit of south wind, but manageable in our Punta Banda fishing area which is partially sheltered.

At noon, Brian and Beto were back at the Vonny's Fleet boat yard with red rockcods, bass, lingcod, and one big home guard yellowtail that weighed 31 pounds.

I got Brian Foley to hold the big yellowtail for the picture, but only after plenty of complaining because he said it was too heavy. What a problem! Ha, ha!

Fishing at Ensenada on Friday, Roy Chesley from Campo La Joya went out on the Vonny I with Beto.

It was a cold fishing day, but calm. They caught 3 nice lingcods, rockcods, some bass, and some bonitos for our Vonny's Fleet customer fish smoker.

We had good Baja winter fishing weather this week, with just a little wind. On Saturday, Ensenada fishing weather was calm, with swells 2-3 feet, air temperatures 37-58s, and the water temperature in our Punta Banda fishing area 56 degrees.
