SMOKEY STOVER BAJA CARAVAN TRIP TO CASTRO'S CAMP

Dec. 1, 3004, Smokey Stover, Castro's Camp, Erendira, Baja California, Mexico Roving Rods Fishing Caravan Report:

We made our first stop at Castro's Camp, with five members fishing: Bird and Smokey Stover, Bruce Ratclif, Ron Gibson, and prospective member Phillip Ma. We departed Castro's Camp at 0830 with five on board the panga, motored several miles north, dropped for bottom fishing.

Capt. Mauricio located bonita. We hit them hard, landing 19, and more mixed bottom fish. My guess is the bonito weighed at least six pounds each. The extra large cooler was full. One person sat on top of the cooler to keep the lid closed!

Whitecaps came up and we headed back to Castro's Camp at 1145. We took enough fish to fill our freezers, gave 11 leftover bonito to the fish cleaners. We had a great barbecue potluck and told the usual fishing stories. Smokey caught the first fish on the trip, and first fish of the day, but Bird and Bruce easily out fished him. Our next fishing caravan stop is Bahia De Los Angeles.
