FLY FISHING ACTION PRODUCES 4 SAILFISH HOOKUPS

Oct. 22, 2005, Eric Weissman, Explore Fly Fishing, San Augustinillo, Huatulco, Mexico Fishing Report:

I arrived in San Agustinillo 3 days ago and the fishing is unbelievable. Today I hooked four big sailfish on my fly rod, and broke off several Skip Jack tuna, before landing some for dinner. I hooked four, and my guys boated three on bait one over 120 pounds.

Yesterday we landed a dozen small dorado and broke off three over 40 pounds. The sea is clean and blue and the fishing is hot right now. I saw over 15 sails today.

The water is clear and blue. Fish everywhere. The sea is choppy, calm, like glass, rough, choppy. There are powerful breakers and an extreme range in tides right now, not predictable at all.

The sea is about 85 degrees but a colder current is around now and the blue line is close to shore. I hit my first sail about 1,000 yards off shore and the last about 7 miles out.
