Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Mexico



April 8-20, 2005, Stan Lushinsky, Ixtapa Sportfishing Charters, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Mexico Fishing Report:

The fishing continues to improve in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo. Our sportfishing captains report the blue water is less than 12 miles offshore and both the SAILFISH and MARLIN activity increased over the previous week.

Inshore fishing conditions also improved, with the action being dominated by big YELLOWTAIL JACKS, and a few nice roosterfish which were found farther south of Petetlan.

Return angler Furman Sheppard reports their three days produced 2 SAILFISH strikes with one release on the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo charter fishing boat Vamanos III on 4/7, with first-timer Robert Ried, returning fishermen Furman Sheppard, Jim Sleeper, Matt Wilson, and first-timer Max Wilson, age 9.

Robert Ried had seven SAILFISH strikes and four releases on Dos Hermanos I, and Furman Sheppard and Jim Sleeper had six strikes with two releases on the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo boat La Bamba on 4/8.

On 4/9, There were 2 strikes and one release on La Bamba with Sheppard and Sleeper. Matt and Max Wilson caught one 100# class rooster and 8 YELLOWTAIL JACKS with Capt. Adolpho. Capt. Ruben aboard the Vamonos 1 reported one 190 lb BLUE MARLIN early in the week and landed another 160 lb BLUE MARLIN with Mr. Walker. Mr. Walker also landed 4 SAILFISH with Capt. Ruben in two days of fishing.

Ixtapa Zihuatanejo sportfishing Capt. Adolofo fishing inshore with Brad Christensen landed 1 ROOSTERFISH, 21 JACKS , and 4 BONITOS. Fishing 1 day offshore, Mr. Christinesn and Capt. Adolofo posted 4 SAILFISH,1 DORADO, 2 TUNAS, and lost 1 BLUE MARLIN. Angler, Mr. Walker fishing aboard the Dos Hermanos 2 with Capt. Chiva landed 20 YELLOWTAIL JACKS. Tim Wentz fishing with Capt. Alex aboard the Gran Jefe landed 2 SAILFISH, 1 DORADO, 4 BONITOS. The Gran Jefe also reported 15 JACKS, 4 SPANISH MACKEREL, 1 SAILFISH, 2 DORADO, 3 CHULAS AND 4 BONITOS with anglers Anton & Ashley of the US. Ground contact, Abel Cortez, also reports at least another half a dozen BLUE MARLIN being landed with report of many more being hooked and lost.

Ixtapa Zihuatanejo weather was sunny with temps in the high 80’s. Sea conditions were calm, and the bait supply was good.
