GREAT FISHING ACTION ON BOTH SIDES OF THE HILL AT LA PAZ

June 12, 2004, Mitch Chavira, fishing with Tail Hunter International at La Paz, Mexico:

All in all we had a GREAT trip.

The first day we headed out to Las Arenas with the focus on getting the boys (Cole 6yrs & Nikolas 13yrs) some action. Well they got it. WFO on Toad Bonita. It was a treat to watch their excitement. We finished the day combing the beach with stellar Rooster fishing. By far the most abundance of the Pez Gallo I've ever seen in La Paz.

The next day we went out of the La Paz side with Capitan Arturo on the Black Magic. Wow what a boat! I thought I was at the Ritz Carlton. We scratched most of the day. We had a nice Marlin on then off again, banged a couple of Dodos then ended the day at La Renita where it went WFO again on the Bonita.

While the Bonita were boiling two Big Sail Fish came lumbering up. I grabbed my 40lb set up, pinned on a deen and threw. The Pez Vela came to play. Fish on! Fish Jumping! Fish spooling me! I was up on the bow staying out of way of the boys Bonita fun but when I saw the bottom of my spool. I yelled for Captain Arturo. He knew I was in trouble and fired up the Black Magic. We chased down the sail down until I had half spool back. We put the boat back in park and 30 minuets later we boated and released this beautiful 120 lb fish.

The 3rd day we went back to the Las Arenas fishing zone for a buoy run. 16 Dodos (mostly punks) and I got Hoo'ed.(use wire at the buoys) Later the same day we went back to the spot where we made bait and got into the Toros they were 12 -15 pounders and pulled hard for the boys. We ended the day back at beach for more Rooster action, double hooks up and all.

The day we were to leave we even snuck in one more short trip before we got on the plane. We took a Super Panga to Los Coyotes where we nailed Pargo & Cabrilla. We were down in La Paz this time to try and get the boys IGFA world records for Junior Angler & Small fry division. It looks like we got them in two Species! Pacific Jack Crevalle (Toro) & Pacific Bonita or according to captain Art, Black Fin or Skipjack. I'll keep you posted on that. Thanks again for putting together another great trip.
