FISHING TRIP WITH CAPT. JORGE OF TORTUGA FLEET

Nov. 11, 2004, Bob Bergman, Las Arenas, La Paz, Mexico Fishing Trip Report:

I along with Jerry Clements of Foothill Ranch fished 3 days, Nov. 6-8, 2004, with Capt. Jorge of Gerardo Hernandez' Tortuga Sportfishing in La Paz.

We launched out of Muertos, oh sorry Suenos Bay. Warm days and calm seas yielded the following fish count: 18 Dorado, 10-28 lbs.; 11 yellowfin, 11-13 lbs.; 2 pargo liso, to 9 pounds; 2 pargo mulato, to 8 lbs.; and 14 dog snapper to 5 lbs; along with triggerfish, bonito, parrotfish, and the ever present needlefish. As always, Gerardo’s service and attention is fantastic, as was the food. Nothing like home cooked meals while on vacation! A big thanks to him, his wife, son Dos, and the cook.

Weather was great, mid to high-80s during the day, mid-60s at night. The only wind we had was light and in the late morning/early afternoon. Seas were very calm.

We caught bait, and lots of it, right in front of the Hotel Las Arenas. In the mornings, we fished about 1-2 miles north of the light house, Pargo, Dorado, and Yellowfin all crashing the surface.

In the afternoons, we fished between the hotel and Los Muertos (trolling for Dorado). One day we went up to Las Cruces and fished live bait for a couple of Dorado.

We stayed at Gerardo's guest house. We got to choose what we wanted to have for dinner every night! The cook does an excellent job. Gerardo's hospitably is second to none. This is our fourth year fishing with him, and we wouldn't go with anyone else.
