COMMERCIAL PANGAS FISHING FOR RED SNAPPER

Jan. 15, 2005, Gerardo Hernandez, Tortuga Sportfishing, Las Arenas, La Paz Fishing Report:

This week, only six pangas from all fleets went fishing out of Ensenada de los Muertos on the Las Arenas side of the La Paz vacation area. Very few people went fishing at La Paz. Most of the skippers at down at Los Frailes.

The commercial pangas are fishing for small red snapper and they report some small yellowfin tuna too. This week had a lot of wind and the fishing at Las Arenas was slow for the very few anglers that went sport fishing. There were some dorado (mahi-mahi) south of Ensenada de los Muertos, around Boca del Alamo, and some pargo liso or mullet snapper caught at Punta Perico.

There are snappers at Isla Cerralvo right now, but the only problem is that we cannot cross over there because of the wind. The La Paz fishing we are doing is at Punta Perico and toward the south from there, mostly around Boca del Alamo. We have a good supply of sardina bait that is located for fishing around Punta Perico. La Paz weather was cold, from 65 to 72 degrees, and the sea surface water temperature has stayed in the low-70s in our main fishing area.
