DEEP MACKEREL BAITS AT PUNTA LOBOS PRODUCE YELLOWTAIL

Jan. 10, 2005, Don Bear, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:

I had a call from Charlie Licha about his fishing at Loreto yesterday (1/9/05). Charlie and David Hill, both Loreto residents, went fishing on Sunday with Alvaro Murillo about 1 to 2 miles off Punta Lobos in 150 feet of water. They used live mackerel, purchased from the marina baitsellers, and frozen squid to catch 6 yellowtail to 34.5 pounds, 6 ocean whitefish to 4 pounds, 5 triggerfish and 1 sheephead of 10 pounds. All the yellowtail came on mackerel. Loreto fishing weather was sunny, the water was glassy calm, and not another panga was within sight the entire day.
