SMALL SHRIMP SHOW UP AT DOWNTOWN MARINA

March 16, 2005, Nacho Davis, Loreto Carnaderos, Loreto, Mexico Bait Fishing Report:

As predicted by various weather forecasters, Loreto has had winds gusting to 25 knots out of the northwest today, following winds out of the west last evening. With these winds, Loreto fishing for yellowtail, or jurel, will run to islands ahead. We anticipate that jurel from the Pulpito area will now be found nearer to Isla Carmen and Isla Coronado.

Loreto fishing water is a little warmer, and the sargazo is everywhere. With these heavy winds, the sargazo is coming up in the Loreto sportfishing areas.

Sailfish are being seen outside already. The fish are "egging." They are laying their eggs in the sargazo.

With the water already heating up the dorado are going to come in sooner at Loreto. Tuna are also coming in, thanks to this warm water.

As the sargazo increases, with its food, so does the good fishing.

Right now the Loreto Malecon is full of shrimp. The bigger fish will not come close, leaving the shrimp protected. Three years ago, the Loreto Malecon was full of shrimp until they were at least 2 cm long, and these shrimp brought in macarela, and the macarela dorado. One day the shrimp took off and have not been seen them again until now. The water is shaping up for a fine year for fishing at Loreto.
