SUPER PANGA FISHING WITH CAPT. PAULINO MARTINEZ

March 26, 2005, Don Bear, Loreto, Mexico Fishing Report:

On Sunday 3/20 my neighbors Michael Hartmann and Charlie Licha and I fished on Paulino Martinez's super panga, spending the whole day at San Bruno north of Loreto. We caught 5 yellowtail of 20-30 lbs. and 1 cabrilla of 8 lbs. on live mackerel, jurelitos and rayadillos purchased at the Loreto marina.

A majority of the yellows were caught in midwater using 4-oz. sinkers, while the cabrilla and a couple of the yellows were hooked while fishing on the bottom.

The weather at Loreto was beautiful until about 11:30, when the wind started to pick up. Air temperatures were in the low 80's.

On Monday 3/21, Paulino guided Johnny Myers of Rogue River, Ore., and Jim Ollendeck of Redwood City on their 22-foot center console to La Cholla, where they caught 1 yellowtail of 30 lbs before the wind and rough seas forced them back to Loreto at midmorning. The nasty weather continued through Tuesday.
