MARGINAL WEATHER CONDITIONS HAMPER ANGLERS
Jan. 7, 2005, Gary Graham, Baja On The Fly, Magdalena Bay, Mexico Fly Fishing Report:
Marginal fishing weather persisted most of the week in the Magdalena Bay vacation area, causing an uncomfortable ride for yachts traveling through the area. By the end of the week, Magdalena Bay had clear skies and no wind prevailed.
I think the boat crews were spending more time hanging on than fishing. Magdalena Bay sea surface water temperatures definitely cooled down this week. The entrada produced fair-to-good fishing for small yellowtail, leopard grouper and barracuda.
The whale count continues to grow each week and both Lopez Mateos and San Carlos are beginning to fill up with eager tourists in search of an up-close and personal experience with a unsuspecting whale. There is still little fishing action to report in the Magdalena Bay esteros, from both San Carlos and Puerto Lopez Mateos. Magdalena Bay water temperature 69-75. Air temperature 62-71. Conditions: Clear.
