300-POUND BLUE MARLIN TOPS WEEKLY FISH COUNT

Oct. 9, 2004, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing:

Super sailfish action continues to lead the pace at Mazatlan with the boats averaging better than 2 billfish per boat fishing day.

Largest fish for the week was a 300 pound blue marlin, taken aboard the "Aries VII", with Captain Carlos Raygoza.

Mazatlan inshore bottom fishing was still excellent and the super pangas were limiting on yellowtail & red snapperr. Overall counts for 19 Mazatlan offshore sportfishing days reflected 41 sailfish, (34 released) 1 striper, 1 blue marlin and 16 dorado.

Mazatlan climate: Mostly sunny, warm and clear, temps ranging from 71 nights to 90 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Warm waters, 83-84 degrees, calm with minor SW swell and light breeze.

Best Fishing Area: 18 miles southwest of the Marina El Cid.

Best Lure/Bait: Hot lure color was the orange/yellow & green, taking a fair percentage of the billfish, with the remainder on rigged baits.
