CHARTER FISHING BOATS AVERAGE 3 SAILFISH PER DAY

Nov. 4, 2004, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing Report:

Super sailfish fishing this past week at Mazatlan with the boats averaging more than 3 sailfish per day. The Aries I had an 8 sailfish release day and the Aries I landed the biggest fish for the week, a 264-pound blue marlin. Overall catches for the offshore fishing reflected 2 blue marlin, 83 sailfish, (74 released) 36 dorado, 16 yellowfin tuna and 1 shark, for 22 fishing days.

Mazatlan inshore panga fishing has been very good, too, with limits of red snapper, a fair bite on sierra and an occasional roosterfish and dorado.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly sunny, temps from 65 nights to 91 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Some rough weather in the early week with no boats out for 1 day. Temps at 81 degrees, back to calm at week's end.

Best Mazatlan Fishing Area: Remains southwest of the Marina El Cid 20-25 miles.

Best Lure/Bait: Rigged trolling baits have been really hot for both, sailfish and dorado. Tuna taken on the feathers.
