STRIPED MARLIN MOVING IN BUT NOT HUNGRY

Dec. 24, 2004, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing Report:

More & more striped marlin are showing up in the Mazatlan fishing area on the Mexican coast but the fish are not yet overly eager to bite, albeit, there seems to be plenty of opportunity to bait the billfish. Overall catches for 16 Mazatlan boat fishing days was 4 sailfish, (3 released) 7 striped marlin (1 released) 26 yellowfin tuna and 7 dorado. Mazatlan inshore fishing action has been primarily red snapper and yellowtail for the super pangas, fishing to the north of the Marina El Cid.

Mazatlan Climate: Some very cool nights with the temps falling to 50 degrees, but moving back up to 79-80 during the daytime. The jet stream is currently running just a little north of Mazatlan and pushing some cooler air into the area.

Mazatlan Sea Conditions: Sea water temperatures continue to be fairly stable at 77 to 78 degrees.

Best Mazatlan Fishing Area: Continues to be southwest of the Marina El Cid, 23-28 miles.
