BILLFISH COUNTS JUMP FOR ARIES FLEET SPORTFISHING CHARTERS

May 6, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing Report:

It was just an incredible difference from last week's fishing at Mazatlan, with the billfish action changing from next to nothing to a couple of fish per boat day. The fish are scattered between two Mazatlan offshore fishing areas, with sailfish at 12 to 20 miles and the striper action at 20-27 miles. The action progressively got better as the week went on and by week's end, the counts were at 3 billfish per Mazatlan sportfishing boat, per day. Overall catches for 22 Mazatlan fishing days reflected 16 sailfish, (14 released) 28 stripers, (20 released) and 3 yellowfin tuna.

Mazatlan climate was mostly sunny, with temperatures from 53 nights to 87 daytime highs. Sea conditions were calm, near perfect, temperatures 75-76 from inshore to offshore. The best fishing area was 12-20 miles for sailfish and 20-27 miles for stripers.
