ABUNDANT DORADO SET OFFSHORE PACE FOR FISHING BOATS

Aug. 8, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing Report:

The dorado action continues to set the pace at Mazatlan, producing fast action fishing at the shark buoys. Although a light angler week that focused mostly on the dorado, those that focused on the sailfish typically had several opportunities. Overall catches for 15 fishing days reflected 8 sailfish and 141 dorado, with many more releases.

Mazatlan fishing weather had 76 nights to 91 daytime highs, mostly cloudy. Sea conditions were stable at 84-85 degrees, mostly calm. Best fishing area was at the shark buoys for dorado and southwest of the marina, 22-25 miles for the sailfish. All billfish were taken on the rigged trolling baits. Dorado were still eager on artificials, live bait, dead bait, strip bait, if it moved.
